Housewife seeks divorce over husband’s refusal to attend church

A housewife, Adenike Oladejo, has approached an Idi-Ogungun Customary Court, Agodi Ibadan, seeking dissolution of her nine years marriage to her husband, Samuel Oladejo, over his refusal to attend Church with her.
Adenike, who testified in court on Friday, said she cried every day because of the kind of life her husband was living. She said her husband was a drunk and always came home late, adding that the plaintiff did not care about her welfare and the only child of the marriage.

Trump picks billionaire Johnson as US ambassador to Britain

Donald Trump has confirmed he will nominate billionaire businessman Woody Johnson as US ambassador to the UK.
The US President hinted earlier this year he had picked the owner of the New York Jets American football team to the prestigious diplomatic posting, known as ambassador to the Court of St James’s.
Speaking at a lunch in Washington DC in January, Mr Trump said the tycoon was “going to St James’s”.

US naval warships arrive in Qatar for military exercise

Two US Navy vessels arrived in Doha to take part in a joint military exercise with the Qatari Emiri Navy just days after US President Donald Trump accused Qatar of being “a funder of terrorism at a very high level”.
      Qatar hosts the biggest US military base in the Middle East with more than 11,000 troops deployed or assigned to al-Udeid Air Base. More than 100 aircraft operate from there.

12-year-old boy kills landlady to get initiated into cult in Delta

A 12-year-old boy has allegedly robbed and killed his landlady at Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State. The teenage was among suspects paraded yesterday for various offences by the state Police Command. The Commissioner of Police in the State, Zanna Mohammed, told reporters that over 60 kidnappers, robbers, murderers, cultists and ritualists have been arrested in the last three weeks.

16-Yr-Old boy rapes, impregnates 14-Yr-Old girl in Katsina

A 16-year-old-boy, Abdulmalik Yau  has allegedly put a 14-year-old girl in the family way after raping her. According to a reports, Yau, a resident of Durbi Ta Kusheyi village, in the Mani LGA, Katsina was reported to have raped his victim and escaped. However, the victim's father, Murtala Lawal, reportedly lodged a complaint at the police station after which an investigation was launched.

Italian kidnapper arrested in Delta State

50-year-old Italian kidnapper, Blessing Fernando, who reportedly abducted a victim in Delta State, was arrested at Ogbe-Isoko community where he went to collect an additional ransom of N50,000 from the victim’s relatives, having collected N250,000 initially.

CBN halts takeover of Etisalat Nigeria

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has directed the consortium of 13 banks involved in Etisalat Nigeria’s $1.2 billion loan to suspend further action on the indebtedness, including taking over ownership or management of the company. The management of the telco blamed its inability to offset its $1.2b loan to the economic downturn witnessed in the country in 2015 and the sharp devaluations of the Naira.

Court to replace Messi’s 21-month jail term with $450 per day fine

Prosecutors in Barcelona say they are not against replacing football star Lionel Messi’s 21-month jail sentence for tax fraud with a fine, a spokeswoman announced Friday. They said they were willing to give the 29-year-old a fine of 400 euros ($450) a day for the duration of the sentence — an option that the defence of the Argentina international has also proposed.
That would amount to more than 250,000 euros, although the court has the final decision over whether to go ahead with this option.

European countries deport 34 Nigerians

Thirty-four Nigerians deported from six European countries for immigration-related offences arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Thursday. The deportees, who arrived at 6.30am, were sent back home from Switzerland,  Germany, Iceland, Austria, Belgium and Hungary.
