Donald Duke Eying The Number One Seat

One of the easily recognisable ex-governors in Nigeria is Donald Duke. Though he left the political scene, he has continued to remain relevant due to his constant attendance at various engagements. He never passes on an opportunity to speak at events and as always, he looks sharp while doing it.

The man has really done well for himself and his state. He changed the mode of governance in Cross Rivers State, and till date, his template is still being applied in the state. He revived the sleepy tourism sector and made the State a haven for tourists. The Calabar Carnival which he initiated continues to be the biggest carnival in West Africa.
Duke’s success cannot be over emphasized. So when I read earlier this week that the he is eying the president’s seat, I was not surprised.
Don’t get it wrong, the man is not a saint either. He can play the ‘amala politics’ down to the grassroots just like the late Adedibu, and like most politicians, he can be ruthless as well…so they say. He is also not that young politician anymore. He has advanced in age, and has joined the old guards.
But all that does not make him a bad choice. When I look around to see other presidential hopefuls… I can easily conclude that Duke is by far a better option. But it’s too early to take sides.
